La grande Ourse opened as a restaurant 1936 welcoming the very first skiers of the ressort.

For several generations of skiers, La Grande Ourse remains the very place in Val d’Isère where history merge with fine, french cuisine in High altitude.

This unique, white chalet  - in front of the historic  Village -  hasn’t changed through all theese years, and has been CLASSE due to the harmonious volumes, the wood carvings, the open firplace and  the Fresco by the artist Fautrier.

The setting is exceptionnal, seducing and  warming and the cooking worthy of french gastronomic tradition.

Lunch :
Everyday the Chef proposes two new  « Today’s Specials »  ( meat & fresh fish) , à la carte and several  « suggestions » , as well as tasy, homemade pastries and  puddings.
This is where you find a quality  lunch, with a  competent  and smiling staff.
Our terrace  (the first in town !) is among the best : sunshine all day, windsheltered and a beutiful view, pleasekeep yourself warm and snug with heatres, cushions and blankets !
Inside the firplace is always in use.
When it snows you can lunch and Watch the falling snow in our heated tent on the terrace, a  quite extraordinary sensation !

Dinner :
Seat yourself at one of our  cosy,round tables , next to firplace, in the « Bar Corner » or on the first floor Mezzanine under the high timber ceiling ????
The essence of a dinner at La Grande Ourse is beauty, joy and a fabulous meal in an easygoing atmosphère.
The Menu, the weekly  Set Menus and the daily  « suggestions » are prepared with  quality ingrédients and everything is highly tasty  and refined.
It’s difficult to choose among grilled, fresh fish,  quality beef  and poultry, homemade Foie Gras,  divine Sauces ,ovenbaked  vegetables and cheasy gratins, not to mention de puddings.

The owners – Lise and Jean – also propose red and rosé from their own vineyard in the Rhône Valley.
