From the very beginning in 1936, Grande Ourse was the obvious meeting place for skiers in the need of Hot Wine or a meal in the sun, or in front of the open fireplace after a day of skiing on the only slope yet !
This is still so generations later ; remaining in the heart of the resort in front of the old village, directly on the arriving slopes of Solaise and Bellevarde, our terrace is the best in town , well know for the many hours of sun, the lack of wind and beautiful view on the mythical Olympic Face.
Inside, this large, white chalet hasn’t changed since the thirties, you shall fall in love with the smoke tainted timber, open fireplace and the cozy at home atmosphere, even if la Grande Ourse is where you mingle with an ‘anonymous’ French, high society crowd.

Lunch :
Both pedestrians and skiers come here to have a quality lunch, a hearty welcome and a good service, the sun or the hearth ready to warm you.
Our chef and his team present several specials every day as well as his traditional French menu, he uses only the best ingredients , being a professional of the fine, French cuisine, and our puddings fresh from the pastry cook’s oven, are difficult to refuse.
Thanks to our huge, heated tent you can eat comfortably on the terrace even on the snowy days, contemplating the snowflakes falling, or choose to eat inside and enjoy the lively atmosphere.
Dinner :
There are two different ways to dine at La Grande Ourse.
Firstly ; a dinner that will remain your best meal experience during your stay in Val d’Isère : take a seat at a beautifully flower decorated and candlelit table and enjoy a highranking French cuisine dinner, and maybe choose an excellent wine from our cellar, in front of the lit fireplace.
You’ll find the food delicious , the service professional and smooth , and enjoy it all in a even and easy way.
The evening menu proposes fresh fish, seafood, poultry and meat and each plate is a little work of art.
You can also choose our 4-meal set menu, with wines inclusive for 45 € and discover the chef’s talent.
Secondly : Go up the stairs to our “Loft “, and have a true, local Savoy dinner : a dinner in a real mountain chalet viewing the starlit sky or the falling snow , in a comfortable, casual and inexpensive way.
